Brief Introduction of the Church
“Logos Christian Reformed Church” is the church of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It faithfully preaches the whole counsel of God without compromise, strives closely to follow the teachings of the Bible, and firmly upholds the reformation spirit. The three fundamental beliefs of Logos Christian Reformed Church are as follows:
1. “Logos”
The threefold spiritual meaning of “Logos” semantically means:
“Holy” represents the third person of the trinity, the “Holy Spirit” (John 14:17; 16:13)
“Logos” signifies “Jesus Christ” (John 1:1); Jesus Christ accomplished the salvation
“Logos” is the “Word of God” (Romans 10:17; cf. Jeremiah 1:9; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Peter 1:21)
The threefold spiritual meaning of “Logos” significantly represents three spiritual gifts: God bestows three meaningful spiritual gifts to all His children: Jesus Christ (salvation), the Holy Spirit, and the Bible.
2. “Christian”
The second word “Christian” semantically conveys the church’s position. This is a pure Christian church, the church of the living God. In addition, “Christian” declares our identity, that we are disciples or followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, and we are united in Christ, and thus, we are Christians (Acts 11:26, cf. 26:28; 1 Peter 4:16). The church should not only be sanctified and completely devoted to God and God himself; moreover, the children of God should also live for God, live unto God, be hostile to the secular world, separated themselves from the secular world, and return solely to God.
3. “Reformed Church”
Church history clearly asserts that when the church pulpit gradually deviates from either the truth or the truth of the Bible is not preached, the church has begun to move away from the sound and pure doctrine and/or teaching of the Bible. The church will be deceived by evil forces, enter a state of confusion, and eventually fall into darkness. The medieval church lasted for a thousand years and was called the “Dark Ages” because the truth of the Bible was not preached and was obscured and misrepresented. In the 16th century, God deliberately raised up reformers such as Martin Luther and John Calvin to bring about the “Reformation,” which aroused an incredible reformation movement, exalted the absolute authority of the Bible, and returned the status of the Bible to its rightful place. The religious reformers emphasized “Scripture alone, faith alone, grace alone, justification by faith in Christ alone, and glory to God alone,” bringing unprecedented renewal and revival to the churches.
The origin of the term “Reformed Church” emphasizes the characteristics of the Reformed Church, namely, biblical doctrines, pure worship, biblical church polity, spiritual discipline, and faithful preaching of the full and sound Gospel, standing firm on the truth of God. The only foundation of the church is the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (Matthew 16:16; 1 Corinthians 3:11). The church is the household of the living God, and the pillar and foundation of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15b). We may glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by preaching the full Gospel and firmly adhering to the sound Gospel truth. Therefore, the general principle of “reformation” at “Logos Christian Reformed Church” is “continuously reformed” Semper Reformanda, reforming and constantly being reformed, reforming and always reforming.
A Reformed church should affirm that the Bible is the Word of God, inerrant and infallible, and authoritative revealed solely the will of God in all aspects of Christian fellowship. The spirituality of Christian life should be rooted and grounded in the authority of the Word of God, through which the Christian faith and life are stipulated, living a pious life that is in line with the will of God.
In summary, a pure Reformed Church regards the Bible as the highest authority, and the operation of the sacred ministry surrenders to the authority of the Bible. It does not regard bishops (hierarchical church polity) as the source of authority, nor does it entrust legislative power to the General Assembly or the Parliament; it only obeys the commands revealed by God in the Holy Bible in the way designated. Church polity, church governance, worship and all church practices should align with the revealed will of God and be carried out according to the time and place God has set for us. Indeed, no one has authority above Christ Jesus, and no one has authority equal to Christ Jesus. We, as a Reformed Church should wholeheartedly admit it that only Christ Jesus has the absolute power to decide what it should be done, how it should be done, and when it should be done in His church. We should neither walk apart from the will of God, nor ahead of the will of God.
